Five Tips for How To Get Prepared For Business School

First year university students have much more on their minds than shopping for pencils and erasers. They need to prepare for what’s most important – their education.

“There are so many effective resources that new students can take advantage of,” says Dean Don Cyr, Brock University Faculty of Business. “It’s just a matter of creating awareness and educating new students on all that their program and Business School has to offer.”

To help students and their parents effectively get ready for their first year of post-secondary, Brock University’s Faculty of Business has provided the following tips to help students transition easily from high school classrooms to university lecture halls:

·     Meet with professors and faculty members. Building relationships with people who work in your Faculty can provide effective connections, resources and mentors throughout your university career.

·     Take Faculty and library tours. Understanding how your Faculty and library is structured and knowing what resources are available will help save you time and energy when researching or seeking help on an assignment.

·     Team up with upper year students. Attempting to build relationships with previous students in your Faculty or TAs will help educate yourself on academic expectations. If you don’t know someone personally, ask your Faculty about mentorship programs or post discussion questions online, for example Brock’s Faculty of Business Facebook page.

·     Join business clubs. Becoming actively involved with your Faculty will only heighten your academic experience. It’s also a great way to meet people in your program and build future connections.

·     Consult your syllabus in advance. Before classes begin, check to see if your course outline is available online and beat the rush by purchasing books and required computer software in advance.
