Portraits of Canadian Women Who Inspire

The Right Honourable Kim Campbell by Gerda Neubacher

It was my big ‘What if?’ moment as an artist. At a party, a woman told me she’d had her portrait painted several times – and she didn’t like any of them. No artist had captured the way she saw herself.

I asked myself: What would happen if I made my subjects equal partners and painted them according to their own vision?Answering that question has been the most challenging and rewarding project of my 35 year career as an artist.A decade and hundreds of canvases later, Portraits of Canadian Women Who Inspire tells their stories in paintings and words – their own words.

These remarkable women come from across Canada and all walks of life. Young women beginning their life journeys and others already established. They come from business, politics, sports, the arts, ranches, society pages, philanthropy and more. Some capture headlines. Others are not as well known but equally as impressive.

These stories will empower other women to pursue their own dreams. Appropriately, it will benefit two important charities: the Canadian Women’s Foundation and Partners In Art.

On March 5, 2013, we’ll roll out the red carpet and launch the book during International Women’s Week. It will be an event to remember, in honour of all girls and women. See art here>>
