How Sarah Jordan is transforming Mastermind Toys to meet the unique challenges of 2020

Sarah Jordan stepped into the role of CEO of Mastermind Toys in January — and just two months later, she began navigating Canada's largest specialty toy and children's book retailer through a global pandemic. That path included closing all 69 stores before the government mandate, finding innovative ways to support Canadian families as they set up new learning zones in backyards, basements, and at kitchen tables, and accelerating a digital strategy that brought the wonder of their in-store experience to their website, and tripled social engagement and followership.

As a strategy consultant turned bank executive, with an MBA and engineering degree from Queen’s University, Sarah doesn’t fit the profile of a typical retail CEO — but thanks to her unique perspective and authentic leadership style, Mastermind Toys is living up to their reputation as Canada’s authority on play. We’ll be sitting down with Sarah to discuss:

    ● Building a customer-obsessed culture starting with employee experience first
    ● Fostering innovation while remaining true to your brand purpose and values
    ● Leading with empathy and strength while making courageous decisions
    ● Being bold, authentic, and playing to your strengths
    ● The importance of mentorship and developing talent to create leaders, not followers
Join us on October 29th for a Virtual Spotlight in partnership with presenting sponsor Smith School of Business. This elevated event and connecting experience will feature a candid conversation with Sarah and CTV News Anchor Marcia MacMillan, revealing not only how she’s succeeding as CEO, but how she managed her career to get there in the first place.
