Journey to Executive Advancement in 2020

Athena Varmazis, Senior Vice President, Cards, RBC
Simona Salter, Vice President, Payments Strategy - Payments, Cards, and Banking, RBC
Third Panelist TBA

As corporate culture shifts and adapts to radically changing times, the journey to executive advancement is no longer a linear approach. Heading into 2020, success in rising the ranks depends on multiple factors: a unique, value-add skill set; personal advocacy; being championed by a sponsor; and strategically aligning with an organization that is invested in creating opportunities for you to succeed - or knowing when it's time to leave and how to identify one that does.

On December 11, CTV’s Marcia MacMillan will pull back the curtain as she sits down with three high-profile executives for a riveting discussion on how high potential talent can navigate the modern corporate landscape in 2020 and beyond. All at different points in their careers, our panelists will share their diverse journeys to the executive ranks and give a crash course on the tactics and tips others can leverage to do the same.

  • Athena Varmazishas over 25 years of experience in consumer and commercial cards payments that spans everything from product development to sales - but her career started on a completely different path in the field of mental health. Athena has taken many twists and turns in her career, some driven by opportunities, some driven by sponsors and mentors, but all rooted in growth mindset and learning from those around her.

  • Named one of Canada's Top 50 Women in FinTech earlier this year, Simona Salter is currently the Vice President of Payments Strategy at RBC, leading a diverse portfolio. Her 20 year career has been anything but linear, spending time in the publishing industry, consulting, and financial services, across multiple leadership roles. An advocate - and recipient herself - of the benefits of sponsorship, Simona is passionately focused on developing the next generation of talent.

  • Third Panelist TBA
