Meet Hiba Badran, President & CEO of GBCS Group.
2022 Innovation Award Finalist
Founder and President of GBCS Group, Hiba Badran has created an efficient fleet management company with significant experience dealing with fleets worth well over billions of dollars in value, and over 20 years of experience identifying client needs and producing successful and sustainable fleet management solutions for both Canadian and International markets. She has deep knowledge and skill set coming from years of hands-on work in the fleet management space, working with international airlines, major oil and gas companies, and other Fortune 1000 Corporations. Hiba is also the founder of Empowered Futures, a non-profit organization established under the GBCS Group umbrella.
My first job ever was… Washing cars when I was 12 years old.
I decided to be an entrepreneur because… I realized that I can use the skills and qualities that I acquired through perseverance and diligence over the years to mentor and guide other people and, in particular, to empower the next generation to be the best possible versions of themselves. I started the Empowered Futures non-profit to support emerging adults and pivot them towards success. However, it is important to keep in mind that any endeavor requires capital, hard work, and a great support system. That is why I spent many years building a trust-worthy and reliable network accumulated through my experience with various disciplines and communities.
My boldest move to date was… Starting my own business and collaborating with major international fortune-100 companies as our clients and partners.
My biggest setback was… Coming to Canada for the first time as a woman immigrant and building my life and my businesses from the ground up with limited English and not a lot of resources.
I overcame it by… Working hard! I made sure to put all of my time and effort into gaining new skills and building valuable relationships by working different jobs, learning about the nuances of the industries, and pushing through hardships.
If you Googled me, you still wouldn’t know… That I’m very funny! And I’m also a very good friend.
When starting my business, I wish I knew… What a crucial asset time is. Over the years, I have found that the ability to invest my time effectively and efficiently means everything in business.
My best advice to people looking to disrupt the status quo is… To get it done! If you find yourself hesitating or being anxious about making mistakes, ask yourself: what’s the worst that can happen?
I stay inspired by… Thinking about my legacy, caring for my family, giving back to my community, being surrounded by the people I love, and working alongside my team.
The future excites me because… I have incredible plans and I do not doubt for a moment that we will be able to achieve our goals. I will ensure that our kids can live in a sustainable environment and I will give back to future generations to come so that I can be proud to leave behind a legacy that will continue to grow.
Success to me means… Bettering the lives of those around me such as my team, my friends, my family, and those who believe in me through inspiring, mentoring, and empowering them to constantly grow and excel ! I often see things in people and situations others do not notice. I am a problem-solver so helping people is what I do.
