Breakfast Workshop

Learn about transitioning into the not-for-profit and charitable sector in this breakfast workshop led by Cathy Preston. As President and Founder of Preston Human Capital Group, she has built a reputation for helping for profit leaders evolve into a career with meaning. In this session you will be introduced to several amazing leaders who have evolved into the not-for-profit and charitable sector and get a glimpse into their reality along with some key recommendations on how to prepare.

    CATHY PRESTON | Founder and President, Preston Human Capital Group

    Preston Human Capital Group is a retained senior executive search firm specializing in building senior management teams. Established in 2006, Cathy and her team have conducted more than 400 search mandates while developing a reputation as being a stellar performer across multiple sectors and verticals. In recent years our emphasis has shifted considerably toward not-for-profit clients, primarily as a result of enjoying the intrinsic benefit of helping our community become a better place, coupled with the tendency to develop deeper, more caring and meaningful relationships with both clients and candidates alike.

    A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Business Administration, Cathy spent the early years of her business career in Marketing at Colgate Palmolive. Following that experience she joined Richard Foster & Associates, a contingency-based search firm where her efforts were focused on marketing roles primarily within the Consumer-Packaged Goods sector. In 1984 Cathy was recruited by Marketing & Promotion Group and over the following 17 years was instrumental in that company’s exponential growth, including the founding of Mosaic Direct, a sister company to Marketing & Promotion Group which became one of Canada’s leading direct marketing agencies. In 1998 she assumed the role of President, Mosaic Marketing Services, the largest marketing services company of its kind in Canada, and consistently delivered increased growth and performance. In 2001 Cathy returned to the executive search industry to bring her breadth of business and client service knowledge to her clients and help them build their own teams. Since then she has established a stellar reputation for her client service orientation and her ability to source and recruit ‘best in class’ talent working alongside some of the top charities and not for profits in the country helping fill their talent pipeline.

    Cathy is a past member of the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) Board Nominating Committee, and a Past Board member of the CMA itself. She also served as a board member for five years for Covenant House, a resource for homeless youth. Cathy is a founding member of the steering committee for the Judy Project, a Rotman School of Business executive program for the Advancement of Women in Leadership. Cathy has also helped executive women who are 50 years of age and older with beginning to strategize around their “Next Chapter”.

    In her spare time, you’ll find Cathy walking her dog on the beach with family and friends at her family cottage in South Western Ontario or whipping up a delicious healthy meal.
