What Now: How Entrepreneur Debbie Fung Is Adapting to a New Normal

Women of Influence Virtual Series: Debbie Fung, Co-founder of Yoga Tree Studios
In 2007, Debbie Fung co-founded Yoga Tree Studios with one studio in Thornhill and a vision to create a yoga community that was inclusive and accessible to all. Today, she’s built the business into an award-winning brand that has been listed for four consecutive years (2016-2019) on GROWTH 500, a ranking of Canada’s Fastest-Growing companies. With five premiere locations across the GTA (and a sixth set to break ground), Yoga Tree Studios offers 2000 live classes a month to a dedicated community of followers.
When Covid forced doors to close on March 15th, operations ground to a sudden halt and revenue evaporated overnight. Debbie had to pivot at lightning speed to find ways to digitize her services and keep her community connected. Over the last month she’s faced unprecedented challenges, but also discovered new opportunities - and done it all with a fearlessly positive attitude.
On April 29th, Debbie will join us live to share her personal journey through Covid as a mother and entrepreneur and provide insight into how she’s adapting her business to a ‘new normal’. Topics will include:
- HR guidance on how to support employees and handle layoffs with compassion
- Quick-launch strategies for moving fitness classes online and digitizing services (for the first time ever)
- How service-oriented businesses can find opportunity in community growth while revenue is halted
- First-hand experience accessing key financing and funding resources from organizations like BDC
- How to integrate home-schooling two young children into the mix!

About the Series
In the midst of this unprecedented COVID climate, Women of Influence and presenting sponsors BDC & Cisco are travelling (virtually) from coast to coast to tap into the first-hand perspectives, guidance, and key insights of Canada’s leading entrepreneurs.
CTV News Anchor Marcia MacMillan will sit down with business owners of varying sizes, industries, and stages of growth who will share how they are managing — both personally and professionally — and what strategies they are using to survive in their respective fields (and how others can do the same). Connecting via the Cisco Webex platform, the Women of Influence community will have the opportunity to ask direct questions about similar business issues they are facing.
